Man charged after holding woman against her will, barricading himself in

A Columbia man is charged after a domestic dispute turned into a possible hostage situation.

Columbia police arrested Haohan Hu, 21, shortly after 7:00 Friday night for unlawful use of a weapon, felonious restraint and domestic assault.

Hu was charged with unlawful use of a weapon and felonious restraint by Boone County prosecutors Monday. His bond was set at $20,000.

Police said they responded to The Greens for a domestic disturbance around 6:30 Friday night.

Officers said they were called by the New York Police Department and filled in on what was going on. The victim was allegedly held against her will for several hours inside the Hu’s apartment, who may have been armed with a knife.

She was able to escape, and called her family in New York, who called the police department. Hu then barricaded himself inside his apartment.

When Columbia police arrived on scene, they got out a riot shield, bullhorn, and K-9 unit to go up to the apartment. A detective arrived shortly after, putting on a bulletproof vest before going upstairs.

Sgt. Scott Hedrick said once officer were in place, they called for Hu to come out with the bullhorn. He said Hu surrendered peacefully after about three minutes.

The victim was not injured.
