Deputies investigating stolen camels, steers from Boone Co.

Two double hump camels and two Black Angus steers were stolen from a home sometime Monday.

The Boone County Sheriff’s Department is currently investigating the theft worth around $20,000.

The camels and cows were bought last week sometime off of Craigslist and now they are gone.

Officials said someone who has knowledge of livestock is likely who stole these animals since it is not an easy thing to do.

The camels weigh about 400 pounds and the cows about 900.

“We have never had an incident like this so this is kind of a new challenge for this we are obviously trying to find the camels, who took them and where they might be going at this point,” said Detective Tom O’Sullivan.

The last time they were seen was Monday morning.

The camels were stolen between 11 a.m. and 5:00 p.m. from the 1100 block of Botner Road.

“The manner in which he had the chain wrapped through the gate would have kept the animals inside,” said O’Sullivan.

That rules out the animals escaping and running loose.

A lock was not put on the chain, however, allowing those with knowledge of livestock to undo the chain and get away with the four animals.

“You would have to have some expertise in this area, because from what I am told camels are not the most friendly of animals,” said O’Sullivan.

O’Sullivan told ABC 17 whoever stole the camels and cows will likely be facing felony stealing charges.
