State official charged with DWI after Cole Co. arrest

Missouri Public Service Commissioner Bill Kenney is now facing one midemeanor count of driving while intoxicated, over two weeks after his arrest by Cole County deputies.

Kenney already posted a cash bond of 200 dollars. He is set to appear in court April 7 for his arraignment.

ABC 17 News obtained his arrest report after filing an open records request under the state’s Sunshine Law.

Kenney, of Kansas City, was arrested shortly after midnight Thursday, March 5, near the Wal-Mart on Missouri Boulevard in Jefferson City.

ABC 17 News contacted Kenney at his home phone number and left a message at his office. So far, those calls have not yet been returned.

Kenney was appointed to the Missouri Public Service Commission and most recently confirmed to a six-year term in January of 2013. Kenney spent 11 years as a quarterback in the NFL, 10 of those with the Kansas City Chiefs.

He also spent eight years in the Missouri Senate and was the Republican nominee for lieutenant governor in 1996. From January 2011 through January 2013, Kenney also served as the chief of staff for Lieutenant Governor Peter Kinder.
