Mid-Missouri spring climatology: what’s average?

In Mid-Missouri, we start the transition into warmer temperatures in March.

Temperatures tend to be variable during the spring and summer months, however.

The average high may be 61, but it isn’t uncommon to see highs anywhere from the low 50s to upper 60s.

Temperatures become more consistent in the summer.

April and May are our wettest months, although average rainfall each month is very similar even into the summer.

With the rain that we see during the spring months, we often have flash flooding concerns.

Flooding should always be taken seriously as its one of the leading causes of death associated with thunderstorms.

Keep in mind it only takes about 2 feet of water to float or carry your car.

Along with an increase in temperatures and rainfall during spring, we also start severe weather season.

The highest risk for tornadoes for Missouri is in May, although the there is a risk for tornadoes all year round.

By April, Missouri is in a moderate risk of seeing a tornado, and that risk increases to high by May.
