Stormwater pipe fails causing sinkhole

The recent rain in Columbia may have caused a stormwater pipe to fail.

A sinkhole was discovered Friday on Nebraska Ave. near Providence and I-70.

Columbia Public Works officials said the storm water failed causing the hole.

By Friday evening it is still not clear if the natural gas line is affected.

If it is emergency repairs will begin Saturday.

This comes just a month before voters will head to the polls to vote on Proposition 2.

Proposition 2 would raise the stormwater utility rate to help fund the failing water systems.
