City shops team up to help terminally ill 4-year-old

While a 4-year-old Columbia boy continues to fight for his life, the city of Columbia is teaming up to help him and his family.

Bryson Smith was diagnosed with an inoperable brain tumor in October of 2014and given six months to a year to live.

Since then, several businesses and friends have hosted fundraisers to try and help him and his mother, Lily Smith.

This Saturday, a unique fundraiser will also help — and you can be a part of it. Several downtown businesses are teaming up to donate a portion of their profits or the money from their donation jars made on Saturday to the Smiths.

“It’s unlike anything before because so many business have gotten involved,” co-organizer Anna Coleman explained. “It was awesome hearing how many people were on board and excited to help.”

Muse Clothing will donate 20% of their Saturday profits. Cha Boutique will give 15%. Main Squeeze, Makes Scents, and Poppy will donate 10%. And Lakota Coffee will give 50% of everything they make on Saturday to the Smiths.

“The family is part of the community and so are we so we just want to help,” Coleman said.

And the help doesn’t stop there.

There will be a Royal Fairy Tale Ball at the Cherry Hill Event Center on Sunday afternoon where 10% of the ticket sales will go to the Smiths.
