Bill to release pot offender serving life sentence moves forward

A bill that would release anyone serving a life sentence for a marijuana offense is moving forward.

A House committee Wednesday voted 11 to 1 to move on House Bill 978 for full debate.

That bill was written with Jeff Mizanskey in mind, who has been behind bars for more than 20 years for marijuana-related offenses.

Mizanksey was sentenced to life in prison without parole under Missouri’s three-strikes law.

It’s unclear when the House will debate the bill.
