Russellville man found guilty of domestic assault

A Russellville man was found guilty Wednesday of domestic assault.

34-year-old Brent Lecure was found guilty of two counts of domestic assault by a Cole County jury.

Prosecutors said Lecure and his ex-wife got into a disagreement about custody in August 2014.

Lecure shoved the woman to the ground and pinned her against a car so hard that it left a dent in it.

People near the incident were able to break the two apart until Lecure’s mother arrived.

When Lecure’s nephew tried to help the woman, Lecure threw him to the ground and choked him from behind.

The nephew told the jury he was just going to talk to his grandmother and explain what Lecure did to him and the woman, but Lecure claimed his actions were in self-defense.

Lecure testified that he did not have any injuries other than a scratch on his chest and didn’t know where it came from.

Lecure admitted that he did not know what his nephew was doing when he went to talk to Lecure’s mother. When Lecure was contacted by Cole County Sheriff’s deputy after the incident, Lecure denied any physical altercation.

Prior to this trial, Lecure was ruled a three-time domestic assault offender and prior felony offender.
