Jefferson City fire crews work apartment blaze

The Jefferson City Fire Department remained on the scene of a large fire at a home that had been converted to apartments in the city’s downtown.

Crews arrived on scene a little after 10:00 this morning at Cherry and Capitol Avenue and immediately began to work the blaze.

Nine people are out of the home, which authorities are calling a complete loss. As of early afternoon, firefighters still hadn’t been able to enter the building to investigate.

No one was injured during the fire and all 9 occupants were able to get out of the complex before fire crews got there.

Jason Turner with the Jefferson City Fire Department said their biggest concern was making sure everyone was out of the building.

The apartment complex is a total loss. They fought the fire for over four hours Sunday. Nearly 30 fire and police crews were at the scene.

It is still unclear what started the fire and authorities are talking to everyone who lived in the building to get any information from them that they can.
