Car crashes into store, causes extensive damage

Employees at a cell phone store in Mid-Missouri are cleaning up after a car crashes through the front window and into the store.

Tuesday, Abc 17 News reported a driver drove into the US Cellular store front in Fulton. Two employees dove out of the way to avoid getting hit.

Three employees were in the store shortly before 5:00 Tuesday night, but no customers were inside. The US Cellular store manager Kaylie Teter was one of the three employees and said the driver accelerated a second time after she crashed through the store front.

“We were definitely all very scared, shocked more than anything because, you know, who’s going to expect somebody to drive right through your store front?” Teter said. “And you know, at first whenever we saw her coming in we thought she was going to stop cause she was going slow, and then she accelerated.”

Fulton police say Chryel Snyder, 50, drove a car into US Cellular. Teter said she was told the woman was a Cost Cutters next door right before the crash and was leaving.

Police said the woman had no medical condition that caused her to drive through the store. They said it looked like the driver hit the gas pedal instead of the brake.

Teter said the other two employees were sitting at a desk in front of the window.

“They just jumped up, ran, one of the employees ran to the opposite side and one of them ran straight out the back door,” Teter said.

She said the car finally stopped about 50 feet into the store. Aside from the front window panel, Teter said she will have to replace two display walls, a large window display, some phone accessories, a desk and a computer.

“It was disastrous, complete chaos,” Teter said. “There was glass everywhere, there was big chunks of glass that completely covered our store. We had, I mean our wave wall was knocked over. We had a frame from a display that we had in front of the window that was destroyed and that was everywhere.”

Police said the driver was not injured. Crews were at the store for about three hours this morning cleaning up the damage. And it may take up to a week to get a new window installed, according to Teter.

US Cellular does not have a damage estimate at this point.
