A single-car accident early Monday morning sent one person to the hospital. At around 12:30 a.m. someone called to report the accident on Highway 50 at the tri-level.

When officers arrived, they found the driver trapped inside his car. Firefighters freed the driver, Lucio Cabrales, from the car, and he immediately was taken by ambulance to University Hospital in Columbia. Cabrales was last listed in critical condition.

According to police, he was driving westbound and went of the road at a curve, hitting a concrete bridge support. Cabrales was wearing a seat belt at the time of the crash.
