Light snow, frigid temperatures Wednesday

This week is proving to be a roller coaster as far as temperature swings in Mid-Missouri.

Tuesday afternoon and evening will be mild thanks to a warm front lifting north through the region and bringing in southwest winds.

Not far behind that warm front is the cold front associated with this low pressure system that will sweep in from the north on Wednesday, bringing blustery winds, falling temperatures, and a chance for light snow accumulation.

Snow will begin by late afternoon into the noon hour for our northwest counties, and spread south through the heart of Mid-Missouri in the afternoon. Most of this will be near and south of the I-44 corridor by mid-evening.

The highest snow totals will be along and north of Highway 24, where 2″ is possible, with isolated pockets of 3″. Most of Mid-Missouri will see 1″-2″ of accumulation by Wednesday night, with lesser amounts near I-44.

This could make for hazardous driving conditions and low visibility Wednesday afternoon and evening, with some blowing snow possible thanks to 25 mph wind gusts out of the north.

Skies begin to clear late Wednesday night, with winds shifting to the north and temperatures plunging into the single digits overnight. Thursday morning wind chills will be below zero, with highs Thursday in the low to mid-20s.
