Stay granted for Osage Co. Sheriff to keep his peace officer license

A Cole County judge has issued a stay in the revocation of Osage County Sheriff Michael Dixon’s peace officer license.

“We are committed to continue serving the people of Osage County,” said Dixon after the stay was issued.

The court has two weeks to prepare a report with their findings on the issue, and the assistant attorney general will have a week to respond when that report is complete.

The Missouri Department of Public Safety revoked his license Monday, and the Osage County Commission asked him to step down his position as sheriff on Tuesday.

Lawyers for Dixon filed a motion for an immediate stay from the state Thursday.

The decision was part of a larger, six-week long process including a disciplinary hearing in mid-December. The meeting centered around criminal charges from 2013 including stalking, sexual misconduct, and assault.

Dixon eventually pleaded guilty to harassing a female Belle police officer.
