One man on the run after shooting Columbia home
Wednesday, one man is on the run after firing multiple shots into a home in central Columbia.
It happened around 4:20 Wednesday morning in the 600 block of Washington Avenue.
A woman living in the home that was shot told Abc 17 it all started over a cell phone.
The woman said a man showed up looking for what he called a missing $25 cell phone. She said she had never seen the man before, but he thought the woman’s friend took the phone. The man pointed a gun at her and told her if she did not give him the phone, he would shoot.
Three bullets hit the house near the front door and south side of the home. Columbia police said all three bullets went through the walls and into the living room.
Eight other people were inside the home at the time, including four children.
The woman said she went outside to try to calm the man down who was yelling about someone stealing his phone. She said the man acted drunk and tried touching her.
When she went back inside, the man started shooting at the home where her children were sleeping inside. No one was hurt.
The woman’s brother was sleeping on the couch in the living room and rolled onto the floor just in time when a bullet nearly grazed his arm, the woman said.
Bryana Maupin with the Columbia Police Department said police are still looking for the shooter.
“We’re trying to locate the suspect because once the officers had arrived, the suspect had already fled the scene,” Maupin said. “So they’re still working the investigation to determine who the suspect may have been.”
