Road construction starts in Jefferson City
Work is moving forward on the site of a new intersection near Lincoln University in Jefferson City. On Monday, Jackson Street closed down between East Elm and Miller streets.
The same thing is also happening 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. Tuesday, so crews can re-route some of the power lines. They also started stabilizing dirt for a new ramp on East Miller Street. The improvements are part of the larger Lafayette Street corridor project, which includes a diamond interchange at Highway 50.
Three overpasses will be also replaced at Chestnut, Jackson and Lafayette streets, and the highway is getting an extra lane in both directions between Monroe Street and Clark Avenue.
The total cost is about $20.3 million, finished by the fall of 2016.
