Cool, dry weather pattern this week

The weather this week will mainly be dry and cool as the upper level winds carry in cooler air from the northwest. There won’t be enough moisture to produce rain the next few days but we will have passing clouds as temperatures drop closer to seasonal numbers by mid-week.

As it’s been most of the winter, Mid-Missouri will be caught between the northwesterly jet stream to our north and the subtropical jet stream to our south. Quick moving areas of low pressure will clip us from the northwest, bringing hits of cooler air and clouds. Meanwhile, storms containing higher amounts of moisture will stay south of us as they are caught in the southern portion of the jet stream.

As a result, our weather will be fairly quiet until Sunday. Forecast models indicate that a stronger cold front moving in from the northwest will have enough moisture to produce light rain with possibly enough cold air for snow to develop Sunday.
