Bank robber appears in court

Shaun Becker, the man who has reportedly admitted to committing six bank robberies in Columbia had his first court appearance today.

Becker was arrested over the weekend by Columbia Police after the robbery at Boone County National Bank on Keene Street.

Police said the K-9 tracked Becker to St. Charles Street.

That’s where they arrested him.

According to court documents not only did Becker admit to robbing all 6 banks, but he also reportedly told police how he carried each one of them out.

Mary Wilkerson at Boone County National Bank said they couldn’t be happier that Becker was caught.

“We’re incredibly pleased that he’s been captured. I mean we knew he would be, bank robbers get caught… We will catch you. It is a federal crime,” said Wilkerson.

Court documents show 6 bank robberies were carried out nearly the same way.

Each time he got away on a bicycle.

Becker reportedly told police he would rob the bank and run to where he stashed the bike nearby.

He would change into new clothes and throw away the old ones. Then he’d take the bike to a car he parked nearby each of the banks.

He also got rid of the bicycle each time he committed a bank robbery.

Wilkerson said robberies are something that’s always on bank worker’s minds.

“We think about it every single day. It’s not just this one guy even though we obviously have had this slate of robberies that he’s been responsible for.”

The F-B-I told ABC 17 Becker isn’t facing Federal charges, but is being charged by the state.

Becker is charged with 6 counts of robbery in the first degree and his bond is set at $300,000.
