Messy weekend weather, chance of snow Saturday night

The low pressure system we’ve been tracking all week is now over southern Texas, and will continue to push north over the next 24 hours.

Rain begins to move in from the south tonight, between 7-9 p.m. for southern Mid-Missouri, including the Lake of the Ozarks and the I-44 corridor.

Rain will continue overnight, bringing between 0.25″ and 0.3″ for areas north of Highway 50, and 0.5″ to 1″ near the I-44 corridor into southern Missouri.

As temperatures hover near the freezing mark early Saturday morning, there is a possibility for freezing rain in areas along and north of I-70. The best chance for ice accumulation will be along and north of Highway 24, where 0.1″ to 0.2″ of ice could form.

Areas along I-70 could see a glaze to 0.05″ by early Saturday afternoon.

Much of Saturday afternoon will be dry, with the exception of some light drizzle and cloudy skies.

As the low pressure system continues to move northeast, a band of snow is expected to wrap around the back side and move into northwest Missouri early Saturday night. This will move into Mid-Missouri between 5-7 p.m. from the west.

Our northwest counties could see 1-2″ of snow accumulation, with areas west of Highway 63 picking up a dusting to an inch by Sunday morning.

Wet areas on roads and bridges could become slick as temperatures drop by early Sunday morning.

Very cold air will stick around through early next week, with highs only in the upper teens to near 20 degrees Sunday and Monday.
