Family welcomes their first child, on first day of 2015

It all started in March of 2014.

“I had been sick all that week and the night before I was like, ‘just go to the store, get some tests it’s not anything to worry about.’ We’ll just make sure. The next day I just happened to look down and it said pregnant,” said new mother Kelly Viebrock.

Exactly nine months and one day later, Leigha Grace was born at 12:33 a.m. weighing 7 lbs., 8 ounces and 19 inches long. Leigha was the first baby born for the year at MU Women’s and Children’s Hospital.

“We presented them with a little Cozy Car full all kinds of toys and different supplies, there were things like a thermometer, they got a little t-shirt with TJ on it, some stuffed animals, different supplies to help them care for their newborn baby,” said hospital house manager Patty Oerly.

The new mom and dad say their life-changing moment of happiness started with a text message

Kelly said, “so I was like I’ll just send him a text and all I got back was ‘oh boy,’ but yeah, it’s oh girl!”

Dale recalls the message he got.

“Got the message and we were in a pretty heated meeting so I looked down at my phone and I was like ‘well here we go, got to get prepared for this, ready or not!”

The Viebrocks said their family and friends in Cole Camp are definitely going to be able to help them.

“They have a healthy baby and to know the baby is going to go home and be loved, it’s just very exciting,” said Oerly.

The family is expected to leave the hospital tomorrow.
