New Mid-Missouri leaders sworn in

Several Mid-Missouri leaders who were elected earlier this year have officially taken office.

Nine officials were sworn in for Boone County Thursday, including Commissioner Dan Atwill, who won the November election with more than 55% of the vote.

He said there are several big things on the agenda for 2015.

The first item on the list is Boone County’s new 911 center.

“This is a project as you know has been in the process for quite some time, it;s very important as of today, January 1, 2015, we have assumed complete responsibility for the personnel of the joint communications system, so this is an important day,” said Atwill.

Atwill expects to sign the construction contracts for the new 911 center within the next several days.

They’re also in the process of closing down the Boone County Fairgrounds, after failing to pass a tax increase to keep the property running.

Officials plan to install security cameras at the site.

The commission also just approved next year’s nearly $80 million budget.

That includes three new positions and pay increases for Sheriff’s deputies.
