Almeta Crayton’s Community Programs host surprise Christmas

Saturday, Kentrell Minton, the chair of Almeta Crayton’s Community Program orchestrated a Christmas dinner and raffle for the residents of Bear Creek Apartments on Columbia’s north side.

Residents were given the opportunity to participate in raffles where gaming systems, flat screen televisions, and bicycles were given as prizes. In addition to the donation of Christmas gifts, the organization supplied residents with dinner, while also stocking the housing complex’s communal pantry.

“One of our gifts to them was, that we went out last night and we shopped until we dropped. We stocked their pantry… We’re going to make sure this pantry is full every month, so that she can make sure her residents have what they need,” said Minton.

Almeta Crayton’s Community Program has been serving Thanksgiving meals to Columbia’s less fortunate residents for a little over 15 years. This year, organizers are now attempting to spread a little more holiday cheer to those in need. Although the program’s philanthropic founder passed away just over a year ago, program members are making sure her legacy lives on.

“This is what we do. It’s about community helping community. When we come together, we have no other choice, than but to win,” said Minton.

Almeta Crayton’s Poor Man’s Breakfast will be held January 19th at St. Luke’s Church in Columbia. Those who wish to donate to the organization can find out more information by accessing the organization’s Facebook page here.
