Man accused of recklessly infecting woman with HIV to appear in court next month

A Mid-Missouri man is due back in court after he is accused of recklessly infecting another person with HIV.

Friday, Warren Williams, Jr. appeared in Audrain County Court for a preliminary hearing in Mexico.

Judge Linda Hamlett ruled there was enough evidence for a probable cause after hearing testimonies from two witnesses. One witness was the victim who reportedly got HIV from William. The other witness was the sergeant that investigated the case.

After being sworn into the court, the alleged victim said when she was tested for HIV in 2003, she tested negative. And when she tested again in 2007, she tested positive for the virus.

In between that time period, the victim said she had sexual relations with Williams and other men.

The other witness who testified, Sgt. William Johnson with the Mexico Public Safety Department investigated the case a few years ago when the victim pressed charges. None of the victim’s sexual partners from that time frame tested positive for HIV expect for Williams, he said.

The victim said she and Williams had been in a serious relationship and lived together in Jefferson City and Mexico from 2005 to 2007.

Williams was reportedly told he tested positive for HIV in 1994. But the victim said he did not tell her until she found out she had contracted the virus.

Abc 17 talked to the victim’s husband after the hearing Friday. He hopes Williams is found guilty and hopes the case encourages others to get tested, he said.

“I hope he gets the max,” the victim’s husband said. “And I hope that there’s more women that actually come out that have actually been with this guy and come out and say I’ve been with this (man) maybe I should get checked. And if they’ve infected him please come forward, because I think it’ll help this case.”

If Williams is found guilty, he could face 10 to 30 years in prison. He is set to appear in court again Jan. 5 in Audrain County.
