Lake of The Ozarks attractions now includes ice rink

With a brand new outdoor ice rink, boat cruises to show off holiday lights and even carriage rides, the lake of the ozarks is really adding many fun things to do this winter season.

Jeff Carroll, the director of business development at Old Kinderhook says, “We are opening an ice rink, it’s not the first ice rink at the lake Tan-Tar-A had one a long time ago and I remember growing up and skating there, it is the only ice rink currently at the Lake of The Ozarks and it’s an outdoor ice rink and it’s a great family attraction”.

It costs between $7 and $13 dollars a person to skate and on opening night it’s free. The new lodge, the resort styled pool and of course the ice rink are all a part of a $13 million dollar project that will be finished in just a few months.

“With us having the hotel opening up in March, it’s just another amenity to add and to get people down here to the Lake of The Ozarks during the winter”, says Carroll.

And when the sun sets, and it gets extra cold out, there are other night time attractions like the carriage rides at the Lodge at the Four Seasons and the Deck The Dock tours on board the Celebration Cruise Line.

“We started 4 years ago with an event called Deck The Docks and what we’re doing is lighting up docks between the lake corridor between the 20 and 12 miles markers and what we have is cruises on the Celebration that depart every Friday and Saturday and actually do a sight seeing cruise and go look at the docks and all the proceeds from the ticket sales go to the Dogwood Animal Shelter”, says Dave Hotz, sponsor for Dock The Decks and owner of Dock Realty.

In 2011 the group raised $6 thousand dollars for the shelter, that has gone up every year and so far this year they’ve already raised $20 thousand dollars. Each light tour costs $20 dollars a person and last for two and a half hours.

Chamber officials say they hope that when people hear about all these attractions, they’ll come to visit and not just during the summer.

“With all the different activities this winter I think it’ll drive more traffic to the lake and there are still plenty of restaurants open, there is plenty of shopping to do you know a lot of our local shops stay open and they have some great Christmas things and holiday inspired things, I invite everyone to just come in, even to just come shopping and just enjoy the ice rink and enjoy some of the festivities that we do have going on”, says membership director Lisset Holt.

Again everyone that attends tonights opening ceremonies at old kinderhook will be able to skate for free. They say they have enough skates for a little more than 200 people.
