Fire at Quaker Oats facility under investigation

Authorities are investigating a Wednesday morning fire at the Quaker Oats facility on Paris Road.

The fire started just before 6:30 a.m. in a rice cake machine. Employees trained to handle emergencies tried to put it out themselves but were unsuccessful. Automatic sprinklers were able to put the fire out.

A spokesperson for Quaker Oats said the fire was contained, and the company is working as quickly as possible to get the plant back to full service.

However, the spokesperson said no disruption in service is expected.

One employee was evaluated for injuries at the scene but was not transported to the hospital.
