Ferguson protesters shutdown malls near St. Louis

Demonstrators have disrupted business at three large suburban St. Louis shopping malls to protest a grand jury’s decision not to indict the police officer who fatally shot Michael Brown in nearby Ferguson.

At least 200 protesters gathered on one of the busiest shopping days of the year Friday at the Galleria mall in Richmond Heights, about 10 miles south of Ferguson.

Several stores lowered their security doors or locked outside entrances as protests sprawled onto the floor while chanting, “Stop shopping and join the movement.” The mall closed for one hour before reopening.

A group of 50 protesters then descended on West County Mall nine miles away in Des Peres. That mall also shut down briefly before reopening.

Several dozen protesters then went to the Chesterfield Mall Friday evening.
