Trash fire prompts evacuation of Residence Inn hotel in Columbia
COLUMBIA, Mo. (KMIZ)
Around 12:45 a.m. Tuesday, the Columbia Fire Department responded to the Residence Inn on Woodland Springs Court for reports of smoke in the attic.
CFD Captain Jesse Cash told ABC 17 News crews at the scene that firefighters found moderate smoke in the attic and on all four floors of the hotel.
The building was evacuated as fire crews worked to find the cause of the smoke. One guest staying at the Residence Inn said he could smell smoke in his room on the first floor.
Cash said crews found burned debris in a trash can on the fourth floor. Firefighters were able to put it out.

Officials told ABC 17 News there were no arrests in connection with the incident and no reports of any injuries.
