Columbia police hold open house to find recruits
The Columbia Police Department held an open house Thursday night to find new officers to join their force.
Lt. Geoff Jones said they were hoping to fill nine open spots, and may have found several potential recruits.
The jobs that are currently open have nothing to do with the 40 positions that would have been funded if Proposition One had passed.
Officers from the Traffic Unit, SWAT Team, K-9 Unit, as well as other departments were there to answer questions and look for candidates.
Lt. Jones said he thought it was a success for both current officers and people interested in becoming one.
“This is a way for officers to come out and provide that information in a format where people felt comfortable asking questions about what people do in different departments,” Jones said. “We have so many different specialty departments that it gave people the opportunity to ask questions about those.”
