Biotech company brings dozens of jobs to Columbia

Fifty jobs are coming to Columbia thanks to a new biotech company.

Wednesday morning there was a ribbon cutting at Nanova Biomaterials.

It is located on Mojave Court in North Columbia.

ABC 17 News got a first look at the 6,000 sq. foot, $1.5 million building, where innovative dental, cardiovascular and orthopedic products are being made.

The use of nanotechnology is what makes this company different than others.

“This is really exciting. It proves the dynamic nature of this community with the University, the city, and a lot of entrepreneurs. This is the place where things are happening and you all should be very proud,” said Matt Downing, Missouri department of Economic Development.

“Today also represents a successful effort of Missouri’s Department of Economic Development who’s commitment to growing the Missouri economy by creating jobs is so very evident today,” said Columbia’s Mayor Bob McDavid.

Last month the company got their first product FDA approved, Starbright 5% Sodium Fluoride Varnish.

Currently Nanova is working on creating a new product called a Plasma Brush.

The dental instrument will be able to disinfect and clean cavities before fillings in less than 30 seconds.
