Thousands attend annual homecoming parade

This weekend is the University of Missouri’s 103rd Homecoming Celebration.

Saturday morning, thousands came to the annual homecoming parade that went through the streets of downtown Columbia.

In honor of the university’s 175th anniversary, descendants of Boone County residents who gave land, money or other resources to help build the university in 1839 served as honorary grand marshals in the parade.

Columbia resident Kristian Haywood favorite parts of the parade are the marching bands and fraternity and sorority floats.

Kristian Haywood, Columbia Resident: “I think its awesome and I really love coming out here every year. I think it’s fun to see everybody get together and do it.”

Earlier this month, MU students and alumni participated in the Homecoming Day of Service and the Homecoming Blood Drive, as well as the Tigers Taming Hunger Food Drive throughout the month of October.
