Royals fans prepare for first game of the World Series in Kansas City

It’s a party that hasn’t been thrown in 29 years. In fact, one of the 13 different Royals t-shirts for sale at Kauffman Stadium says “Party like it’s 1985.”

Since it has been that long, the playoff memorabilia feels like genuine collector’s items.

The Royals fans who spoke to ABC 17 remember the 1985 series clearly, whether they were 9 or 39.

The lowest price someone said they paid? $200 for a seat, but no one said they would ever pass up the chance to buy a ticket.

All these years of believing led them to this game.

“29 years of getting good players and sending them off after 4 years. And now, basically have all the eyes in the world on Kauffman Stadium today and tomorrow. That means a lot,” said Royals fan Derek Bost.

Clara Baker sells tickets at Kauffman Stadium, but didn’t have to work Tuesday afternoon since they sold all the tickets early…something that’s been long overdue for her since she’s been working there since 2001.

“You get excited and you thought you had the team, and then we never just made it quite to the end. And this year, this team’s just been exciting. And from the beginning of the season, you just fell in love with these players,” said Baker.

Many people here are second generation Royals fans. They talked about good times spent watching the Royals with their family, even if they didn’t all end in World Series wins.
