Man arrested in Columbia murder

A Columbia man has been arrested and booked into jail on suspicion of murder.

Anthony Shegog, 57, was arrested on charges of second degree murder and armed criminal action.

Monday, officers found the victim, 59-year-old Walter Lige, with possible stab wounds near Pecan Street, and he died later at University Hospital.

Police said the cause of death will not be released until after the Boone County Medical Examiner completes an autopsy.

Investigators say a female witness said Shegog and Lige came to her apartment to visit her. She claims Shegog became jealous of Lige because he was talking to her. She also told police she saw Shegog stab Lige with a knife.

Police did find a knife in the apartment on Pecan and some of Lige’s belongings.

Hickman was not locked down, as the school has a buzz-in system and security inside the building, according the CPS Spokeswoman Michelle Baumstark.
