Man originally charged with murder sentenced for assault, burglary

A man originally charged with murder in the death of a Columbia teen in summer 2013 was sentenced for burglary and assault in Boone County Court Monday.

19-year-old Joshua Murray pleaded guilty in August to burglary and assault.

Murray was originally charged with armed criminal action and first degree murder in the death of Tre Marshall.

Murray was sentenced to 10 years in the Department of Corrections for assault, and 7 years for burglary, Those charges will run concurrently.

Some family members of Treveon Marshall told ABC 17 News they don’t think the sentence is long enough, and it’s just a slap on the wrist after the death of Marshall.

Marshall’s mother believes Murray’s sentence was fair, since he worked with law enforcement during the trial.
