Second Chance holds annual Paws in the Park fundraiser

Second Chance is holding its eleventh annual Paws in the Park fundraiser at Stephens Lake Park in Columbia over the weekend.

Valerie Chaffin, the executive director of Second Chance, said this year there are about 60 sponsors with tents and booths.

“It started 11 years ago to give us a bigger opportunity to adopt out dogs and cats,” Chaffin said. “And its become more of a regional educational and adoption event. It’s not just for us anymore, there’s a good half a dozen other shelters and rescues with their pets. They’re looking for their homes too.”

Chaffin said the event includes seminars on pet behavioral issues. There is also a dock-diving tournament for dogs, as well as several food vendors.

The fundraiser will continue Sunday from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m.
