Jefferson City superintendent leaving at end of school year

The Jefferson City superintendent announced he is retiring at the end of the school year. Dr. Brian Mitchell first joined the district in 2009.

“Along with members of the Board of Education, I am saddened by Dr. Mitchell’s personal decision to retire,” said the Jefferson City board of education president, Dr. Dennis Nickelson. The board says they will start working on the search process over the next few weeks.

The district is also facing a lawsuit by a former teacher who claimed she dealt with a hostile environment including assault, harassment and intimidation. Mitchell’s retirement comes less than a month after the principal of Jefferson City High School decided to leave. Jeff Dodson said he was resigning after six years, admitting he became a “lightning rod for unrest.”
