Suspect arrested after leading police on chase earlier this week

A suspect who led Cole County Sheriff’s deputies on a chase Tuesday night was arrested Thursday night.

24-year-old Matthew Haulenbeek is charged with resisting arrest, careless driving, and possession of methamphetamine. Bond was set at $5,000.

Deputies said Haulenbeek took off once they pulled over his car Tuesday on Rainbow Drive near Highway 50 west of the Capital Mall. Haulenbeek was originally pulled over for a drug violation.

The pursuit headed south and lasted for more than 20 miles, extending into Miller County.

Haulenbeek bailed out of his car in the 100 block of Hackberry Road and ran into the woods. When deputies ran the plates on the Pontiac, it came back as a Dodge Neon.

A resident on Hackberry Road told deputies Haulenbeek came up to their house later Tuesday night, but deputies were unable to arrest him when they arrived at the home.

The car was impounded and taken to the Cole Co. Sheriff’s Department.
