Man booked into jail after RV arson
A man has been caught after allegedly setting a Boone County RV on fire early Wednesday morning.
John Powell was arrested on multiple charges including arson and animal abuse.
Deputies took Powell into custody just after 2 a.m. Thursday at the scene where the alleged crime happened on Spiva Crossing.
He made statements about harming himself so he was first taken to a hospital for evaluation.
The RV and a mobile home were damaged in the fire. The suspect allegedly assaulted a woman believed to be his wife then set the vehicle on fire, according to the Boone County Sheriff’s Department.
According to firefighters, the couple living in the mobile home had been staying in the RV while doing renovations. The RV is a total loss, and the mobile home was damaged in the back.
A dog died in the fire, but there are no reports of any people getting hurt.
Officials said the Red Cross will help the wife find a temporary place to live.
