Boone County hiring emergency manager

Boone County commissioners approved a job description for a new county position. Officials said as part of the new 911 and emergency management center, the county must hire an emergency manager.

This is a first of-its-kind position for the county. To this point, the responsibilities of an emergency manager have fallen on the 911 director.

Commissioners said the job description had to be written and approved before hiring could begin. Officials said the county is filling the position because of the state -of-the-art facility currently being built. “As part of this new project and the a result of the tax that was passed by the voters, to establish the 911 emergency management center — we must hire an emergency manager,” said Dan Atwill, Boone County commissioner.

Boone County officials said they’re currently accepting applications for the emergency manger position.
