Traffic temporarily backed up for woman on Columbia bridge

Traffic on westbound I-70 in Columbia was backed up for more than two miles late Wednesday morning as police talked a 71-year-old woman off the Providence Road overpass at I-70. Officers safely got her off the fence just before noon.

Police shut down a section of the highway and were diverting traffic after several callers reported a person scaled the outside fence on the highway overpass along Providence Road.

Emergency officials confirmed all lanes closed between Rangeline and Providence just before 11:30 a.m. Traffic was being rerouted through the exit and entrance ramps onto the highway, before finally reopening after 11:50 a.m.
