Trash cleaned up outside Columbia motel

Last week, piles of trash and dirty furniture littered the parking lot of a shuttered Columbia motel.

The mess was lying outside Providence Inn and Suites off Vandiver Drive.

Businesses in the area told ABC 17 the mess was becoming an eyesore.

The city handed the current owner a violation, giving them 10 days to clean everything up. It was supposed to be cleaned up by Monday, and the lot was clear by morning.

City leaders thought they had a buyer for the empty motel earlier this summer, but he backed out of the deal at the last minute.
