Teenagers arrested for shooting in south Columbia
Police arrested two teenagers in connection with a shooting in a south Columbia neighborhood. According to the police report, one of the teenagers, Thomas Kim, made arrangements for a drug deal with an 18-year-old woman at Bethel Park.
Kim, 17, is charged with 1st degree assault, armed criminal action, unlawful use of a weapon, and receiving stolen property. Kim’s bond was set at $200,000 cash-only.
Kim allegedly walked up to the woman while she was in her car and fired a shot with a handgun, then ran away. The woman wasn’t hurt, and followed Kim in her car. When Kim got into a car driven by the second teenager, a 16-year-old male, the victim followed them to Needham Court. At that point, according to the victim, the unnamed teenager shot at her car several times with a handgun, hitting it once.
Police later found Kim and the younger teenager near Southampton Drive and Fall River Drive. Officers found a gun that had been reported stolen, and learned Kim allegedly planned to rob the victim.
Kim was arrested on suspicion of robbery, armed criminal action, endangering the welfare of a child, receiving stolen property, and unlawful use of a weapon.
The other teenager was taken into custody for juvenile delinquency, having tobacco under the age of 18, possession of marijuana, unlawful use of a weapon, and possession of drug paraphernalia.
