$12.7 million JC pipeline paid for through a sewer bond

Jefferson City Public Works opened a portion of the three phase new Cole Junction Pump Station.

It’s located at the intersection of 179 and Boonville Road.

The project will remove wet weather overflow in the sewer system.

Matt Morash with the Jefferson City Public works said this project was paid for through a sewer bond issued to the city in the year 2010.

This particular sewer line runs 25 miles under the Missouri River and into the Jefferson City Water Reclamation Facility.

Chamber members gathered for the ribbon cutting this morning for a project that has been going on for several years now.

Morash says the 12.7 million dollar project will not only cover parts of Jefferson City, but also Cole County.

He said one main reason for the new pump system is for cleaner water and public health concerns.

The system will also eliminate odors.

He said this is one of the largest projects the city has ever done.

The new pipeline provides larger capacity to remove two additional wet weather overflows.
