Trooper not being charged for 20 year olds death

Today, special prosecutor Amanda Grellner released a statement saying she will not be filing charges against Anthony Piercy, the trooper who had 20 year old Brandon Ellingson handcuffed and was thrown from his boat and drowned.

Grellner’s review of the case agreed with the findings of the Coroner’s jury last week in Morgan County.

“I based that decision on the request of the coroner’s inquest and the findings made by that particular jury,” said Grellner.

The head of Missouri’s Highway Patrol put out a statement after receiving Grellner’s letter.

He also said all records in the investigation are now available and can be viewed and the death investigation has the details on the case.

Superintendent Ronald K. Replogle said, “As with any critical event, I wanted to personally assure the public the patrol will continue to review all procedures related to this incident.”

Grellner also responded to reports today that not all witnesses were interviewed in last week’s inquest.

She said the boat captain was chosen because he assisted the trooper during the incident.
