Jefferson City man pleads guilty to sexual assualt

A Jefferson City man was sentenced to 18 year sentences after pleading to guilty to multiple charges Tuesday.

44-year-old Brett Courtney pleaded guilty to attempted rape, 2 counts of forcible sodomy, and armed criminal action charges from a July 2012 sexual assault on St. Louis Drive in Jefferson City.

Courtney broke into the home wearing a ski mask and assaulted a 16-year-old girl who was home alone.

Investigators linked Courtney to the assault after he barricaded himself in his house 9 days after the attack.

His home was just down the street from the home where the attack happened, and items related to the assault were found inside his home.

If Courtney is ever released, he will have lifetime supervision with GPS monitoring, and will have to serve at least 85% of his sentences before being eligible for parole.
