Jefferson City man in jail after high-speed chase in Callaway County

A Jefferson City man is in jail tonight after leading deputies on a lengthy, high-speed chase throughout Callaway County early Friday morning.

Police tried to stop Stanley Ronimous, 46, after he failed to dim his headlights. Sheriff’s deputies arrested him soon after when they say they found meth and other drugs inside his vehicle.

ABC 17 took a deeper look into Ronimous’ criminal history and found out he’s committed similar crimes over the past 20 years.

As of 5 p.m. on Friday, Ronimous still had not been charged, but police said he faced charges of driving while revoked and felony resisting arrest by fleeing. It’s two crimes he’s been sent to prison for at least five times already. His latest arrest is his third offense just this year.

Since 1989, Ronimous has been arrested at least nine times for offenses ranging from driving while intoxicated and with a revoked license to possession of marijuana and other drugs.

According to court records, he’s been sentenced to a total of at least 21 years in prison for various crimes.

In his latest offense, Callaway County Sheriff Dennis Crane said in a release that Ronimous led them on a chase near State Road AA and Highway 94. He reached speeds of more than 90 miles per hour on the back roads between Holts Summit and Tebbetts. Once the chase ended, deputies say they found 12 grams of methamphetamine and other drugs inside his car.

Court records show Ronimous is already awaiting two court dates for similar charges, including a driving while revoked offense from just one month ago.

ABC 17 reached out to Sheriff Crane for an official comment about the chase and arrest. However, he was out of the office on Friday.

Ronimous is in jail on a $15,000 cash-only bond.
