Wrapping up the Show Me State Games

Today marks the end of the 2014 Show Me State Games, as well as the 30th Anniversary of the yearly event.

The coordinators of the games said there will always be a few hiccups here and there when you put on an event this big, but overall the games were a success this year.

Emily Lorenz is a coordinator of the event.

She said the end of the 2014 games does not mean her job is done.

“We work on getting the results and those posted to our website. All the athletes get really excited to see their name and see who won those gold, silver and bronze medals. Then we just got back to the office. We pack up all the equipment and get the tee-shirts back and everything back and then just start planning,” said Lorenz.

Today, the Cobras baseball team played for one of those medals for the first time.

Shelby McMillen is an outfielder for the team and said they did better than expected.

“All together our team has done better than what anyone has expected us to do because we were expected to come down here and lose three straight but we came out of pool play 3 and 0,” said McMillen.

Bryce Ross is the left fielder for the Cobras and said he has had eight surgeries and is currently needing knee surgery.

“I mean it’s always a setback, but it’s fun to do it if you have injuries. You just gotta put your mind where it needs to be and play baseball,” said Ross.

This is his first time playing in the Show Me State games and unfortunately he ages out this year as well.

He said he was in pain, but that won’t stop him from doing what he loves.

Smiling, Ross said,”You gotta go out on top right?”

The Cobras team is made up of baseball players in the Maryville, MO area.
