Gary Pinkel hosts annual charity golf tournament
COLUMBIA, Mo. (KMIZ)
Former Mizzou football coach Gary Pinkel hosted his third annual charity golf tournament at the Club at the Old Hawthorne on Monday morning.
Pinkel holds the event each year to raise money for his foundation, G.P. Made. The organization's mission is to help kids across the state of Missouri.
"People are so generous and I think they are very trusting that what we do is we do things to help kids," he said. "I'm a little bit overwhelmed at the turnout and how much they really want to help."
Each year several former MU football players come out to support their former head coach. This year, former Tiger quarterback James Franklin attended the tournament for the first time.
"It puts it into perspective with having two kids now and you want to do everything you can for them and you can't imagine them not having something they needed, it's just really heartbreaking," he said. "I think that it's awesome. Any time you can help out kids, kids that are struggling, kids that don't have both parents, don't have one parent. Anything you can do to help out, to be a good example, and to try and help give them what they need, it's very moving."
