Man arrested after child custody dispute in Jefferson City

A child custody dispute led to a man’s arrest in Jefferson City Sunday night. According to the Jefferson City police department, the dispute happened when Rufus Williams, Jr. refused to return his 18-month-old son to the child’s mother.

The mother had dropped the child off with Williams, but when he later told her he wasn’t giving the child back, a dispute began. At one point during the argument, the mother said Williams pointed a gun at her, so she left and called police.

Officers later arrested Williams, for unlawful use of a weapon, domestic violence and being a felon in possession of a gun, though no gun was ever found. The child was returned to his mother unharmed.
