City offers spoiled food drop off, special tree debris pick up

If you have spoiled food following Monday night’s storms and subsequent power outages, you’re in luck. Columbia Public Works will have special drop off locations for food waste.

The food collections will start this Saturday from 8:00 a.m. to 12:30 p.m., and there will be no charge for drop off.

Public Works has also announced a special tree debris pick up on Saturday, July 19.

You can drop off spoiled food at the Boone County Public Health and Human Services Department in Columbia at 1005 West Worley Street, as well as at FairviewElementary at 909 Fairview Road. Public Works asks residents to bring their items to the south parking lot where there will be a solid waste vehicle.

Public Works also reminds residents not to dump their spoiled food into dumpsters in either location.

To request a special tree debris pick up, residents need to call 573-441-5550anytime between now and Thursday, July 17, at 5:00 p.m.

Callers will be directed to a message where they’ll need to leave their first and last name, street address, ZIP code, and phone number.
