Golden, Murphy added to preseason watch lists
Mizzou football has two of its stars on two preseason watch lists, the school announced Monday. Senior defensive end Markus Golden was named to the Bednarik Award Watch List. Senior tailback Marcus Murphy was named to the Paul Hornung Award Watch List.
Golden is one of the key returning players for Missouri’s defensive line. He had 13 tackles for loss and six sacks on one of the nation’s most effective units last season. He also had a 70-yard interception returned for a touchdown against Toledo in the 2013 season.
The Bednarik Award is presented to the nation’s defensive lineman of the year in college football.
Murphy is on the Hornung Award Watch List, which tracks the nation’s most versatile players. He is a second team All-SEC selection last season while scoring 10 touchdowns on 1,425 all-purpose yards. Murphy ranks eighth on Missouri’s career all-purpose yards list.
Golden and Murphy join Evan Boehm (Rimington Award Watch List) as the other Missouri Tigers to make a national award’s watch list.
