Boone Co. man arrested for stabbing
A Boone County man is in custody for the stabbing of 40-year-old Richard Bennett.
Boone County Deputies arrested twenty-one year old Charles Trevion Key, also known as Tre, Tuesday afternoon.
He is charged with second degree murder and armed criminal action.
Bennett was stabbed to death at his apartment on West Wilcott Drive in the Prathersville area on May 28th and died shortly after at University Hospital.
Court documents state that Bennett was able to identify his killer shortly before he died.
They state neighbors told police Bennett said, “Tre stabbed me.”
As deputies arrived, Key walked out of Bennett’s apartment.
He voluntarily went to the Sheriff’s Department for questioning.
Key said he was friends with Bennett, but after deputies asked him about the stabbing, he denied knowing him at all.
Tom O’Sullivan with the Boone County Sheriff’s Department said, “Obviously, we believe there was some type of altercation at the victims home that evening. You know this investigation went on almost a month. We are just glad we can bring some closure to it.”
O’Sullivan said Key has been in custody since the night of the stabbing, but has been at Fulton State Hospital.
Key has a set bond of one hundred million dollars, cash only.
